Game Summary

The Blue Angels most attended game of the season was the first game of the playoffs and it did not go as well as they were used to.  After only playing once as a team in the past 2 weeks, the Blue Angels took awhile to get the bats going.  The Blue Angels batted first and managed 2 runs to take an early lead thanks to some patient batters watching pitches miss the plate frequently.  The opponents would tie the game in the bottom of the 1st inning and would go up 5-2 after two innings.  There was no additional scoring until the top of the 6th when the Blue Angels took the lead with a grand slam of the bat of #19 Michael McKenney (one of two home runs and 6 RBIs on the night).  The Blue Angels gave it right back in the bottom of the inning allowing a game worse 5 runs in an inning they could have greatly reduced the damage.  The opponents did not look back after the 6th inning and had a 9 run lead going into the 9th and final inning.  The Blue Angels managed 3 runs, a feat in this game, but would fall short.  The umpire made a few questionable calls, including calling out a Blue Angel base runner at 3rd base in the 9th, that seriously affected the come back efforts of the Blue Angels.  Whilst the base hits calculated below don't reflect the high number of fielder's choices, the Blue Angels' bats were not the biggest issue for them.  The base running left a lot to be desired and it did not help that the opponents were very accurate throwing from the outfield.  The loss puts the Blue Angels in a bad position as they need to be in the top 4 to advance and 3 of the remaining games feature tougher opponents than this game.
