Game Summary
Game 3 of the round robin playoff round pitted the Blue Angels against a tough opponent who they had defeated in the regular season and once again in the tournament victory early this season. The Blue Angels were home team for the first time in the playoffs (as the first 2 games' umpires neglected to perform a coin toss), and found themselves down early in this game, 9-5 after 3 innings of play. The Blue Angels would outscore the opponent 10-0 in the 4th inning. While the Blue Angels would only score 2 additional runs in their last 4 innings, they held the opponents to only 4 runs in their last 6 innings including four shutouts innings. The defense had their issues with untimely errors but cleaned it up nicely for the second half of the game. The umpire did his best to change the momentum of the game with a handful of close but obviously wrong calls against the Blue Angels. The offense was still not at the top of it's game but in the 10 run 4th inning, it was putting on a show, batting the order (13 players), the first 11 with only 1 out. #8 Chris Herbert hit a 3-run home run, his first of the post season, to end the scoring in that inning. #19 Michael hit his 4th home run of the season in the 3rd inning. #84 Myles Calvert continued his torrent pace, batting 1.000% for the 3rd time in the playoffs including a home run out. The outfield was making strong plays for the Blue Angels even when a catch was not made. The win significantly improves the Blue Angels' chances of advancing in the playoffs, vaulting them into 4th of 6 teams. With two more wins with low runs against, the Blue Angels would be in really good shape to advance. The Blue Angels' playoff record is now 1-2.
